Robert Brandon Obituary

Commander Robert "Bob" William Brandon (retired U.S. Navy Reserve), 89, died Sunday, August 13, 2023 in Boulder, CO. Son of Victoria and Robert Brandon, Bob was born August 30, 1933 in Chicago, IL. In 1957, he graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in Architecture. He served in the U.S. Navy for 28 years (1957 - 1985) beginning his military career with OCS in Newport, Rhode Island. Bob started his civilian career with Tishman Construction Corporation in the Chicago office. After many years he took a leap of faith and founded his own company, Brandon Associates Ltd, in Winnetka, IL where he worked until his retirement. In 2015, Bob and Joyce moved to Boulder, CO to be near their two sons and their families. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed many outdoor activities including boating, fishing and birding. Bob also liked to travel whether to his favorite local fishing hole or to one of the many countries he and Joyce visited abroad. Above all, Bob loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce (Strosinski) Brandon and their children: Mark (Diane) Brandon and Erik Brandon. In addition he is survived by his five granddaughters: Hannah and Molly Brandon and Victoria, Alexa and Calla Brandon. Charitable contributions may be made to the Covenant House Illinois (Covenant House Illinois 2934 W. I had tried to contact him including the e-mail address of home he & Joyce were at without success (he hadn´t given me address last we talked). He told me he didn´t like using a cane ... it had to be a big one. He was always joyful and fun and a great boss (at Tishman then Brandon Associates). He always shagged the guys stopping in my office. He wasn´t just a boss, he was a great man and somewhat of a father figure. He always made me feel I was great; not sure it was true. I wished I could have his outlook on life. Thank you. Kathy Papousek

"Hey Dad, look at that northern!" said Eric, pointing to the water. "Yeah, right on your line" Mr. Brandon replied calmly. It was early morning in July of 1978, on Lake Killian at Camp Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan in Pearson, Wisconsin. Bob Brandon took Eric and me out to fish in a row boat before hardly anyone at camp was awake. That northern pike escaped capture by swimming under the boat, snapping the line. Thank you Mr. Brandon, for introducing me to fishing for northern pike and volunteering in our Boy Scout Troop 13. My condolences to the Brandon Family.
