Anthony Costanzi Obituary

KINGSTON- Anthony Vincent Costanzi, Jan. 17, 1948 - Aug. 11, 2021. Born in Kingston, Tony graduated Kingston High School in 1966. After completing his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Lehigh University in 1971, he returned home to work alongside his father, Tony Sr., at Costanzi Construction and formed Ayvee Construction. For almost a decade they worked together to complete many municipal and private projects throughout the greater Hudson Valley, including roads, bridges, water & sewer pipelines and treatment plants. During this time, their fleet of construction equipment always included a few cranes which they used primarily on their own projects, but occasionally rented out on a daily basis to other contractors. As time went on, Tony noticed that requests for rentals of their small cranes began increasing dramatically, as did their customer’s requests for larger and more diversified cranes. Turning down the challenge of a customer’s request has never been part of Tony’s makeup, so he accepted this calling and decided to end his career as a general contractor and commit himself completely and exclusively to the growing crane rental needs of contractors throughout the Hudson Valley, establishing Costanzi Crane, Inc. in 1981. He was very proud of the team he built at Costanzi Crane and although the faces of the team changed over the years, he was always proud of their hard work and loyalty. Tony was a staunch advocate for animals and served as president of the board of directors for the Ulster County SPCA for many years. He had a lifelong love for cats and more recently honeybees. He was a patron of Bees for Development and a proud sponsor of their work in Africa. He was also an avid woodworker and photographer. He had a passion for travel and had accomplished his goal of traveling to the seven continents of the world but was always proud to call the Hudson Valley his home. Tony survived by his wife Megan, sisters Judi and Marie, his niece Jill, nephew Jason, along with many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial arrangements are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Smith Avenue. www.jvleahyfh.com Memorial visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
