Emma Mayer Obituary

Emma M. Mayer ESOPUS- Emma M. Mayer, 84, of Esopus, died Friday, April 22, 2011 at home with her family. She was born Dec. 3, 1926 in Catskill, to the late Mathias and Clara (Trautman) Wager. She was married to Frank J. Mayer, they wed on June 30, 1951. Frank passed away on July 29, 1989. Emma was a Microfilm Technician for Medrex in Port Ewen before retiring in 1987. Emma was a former member of the Esopus Firehouse Ladies Auxiliary, and bowled in a league in Kingston. She was also a member of the West Esopus Land Owners Association. Emma was a good friend, and a "Florence Nightingale" to many. She was the one who would visit someone sick, run an errand, or just be there to listen. She had a great sense of humor, and as friends and family know, was quite the prankster. She and Frank were very devoted to each other, and took great pride in their home. They loved dancing and had many years of great times with "the gang" at Twin Lakes. Emma was the center of her family, and a classy lady in every way. Emma is survived by her daughter Debra Mayer-Cabe of Esopus, her son Thomas Mayer and his wife Terry of Poughkeepsie, two grandsons, Seth Cabe of Long Island and Frank Cabe of Albany, as well as two sisters, Dora of Saugerties and Sophie of North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents and her husband, Emma is predeceased by her sisters, Helen O'Connell, Clara Dooley, and Gertrude Harris, as well as her brothers, Harry, Henry, and Norman. Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, NY 12466, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Blue Mt. Cemetery, Saugerties. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the funeral home. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Hospice Foundation, 34 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401 or American Cancer Society, 95 Schwenk Drive, Kingston, NY 12401.
