Janet Frances McDermott

1935 - 2020

NEW PALTZ- Janet Frances McDermott, 85, of New Paltz died December 22, 2020. Born April 15, 1935, she was a lifelong resident of New Paltz. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Violet Shuckrow. She married Joseph McDermott on Feb.14, 1953 in St. Joseph’s Church. Joseph predeceased her in 1982. Janet, known as Mrs. Mac, worked in the cafetería of the New Paltz school district for 27 years. Janet was a devout catholic and volunteered at the church until 2015. Janet enjoyed her family, gardening, the outdoors and all animals, especially dogs, and the Brooklyn Dodgers. Janet is survived by her sons, Joseph Michael and his wife Dottie of Florida, Edward Patrick of New Paltz, and Timothy and his wife Lisa of North Carolina; her daughter, Kathleen Campbell of North Carolina; her grandchildren, Kelleye Anne McDermott of Texas, Kimberley McDermott of Florida, Allyson McDermott of North Carolina, Jillian McDermott of North Carolina, Ryan Campbell of North Carolina, and Colleen Campbell of North Carolina; great-granddaughter, Sophia Campbell of North Carolina; her nieces, Sharon Hart of North Carolina and Denise Tylor of Washington; cousin, Carol Passaic of Gardiner; dear friend and neighbor of 45 plus years, Mary Johnson; dear friend, Julia Kochik of Virginia; and dear friend and neighbor, Caroline Paulson. In addition to her parents and husband, Janet was predeceased by her son-in-law, Charles Campbell and her sister, Joan Hart. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Janet’s name be made to either the Ulster County SPCA, 20 Wiedy Drive, Kingston, N.Y., 12401 or to St. Joseph’s Church, 34 South Chestnut Street, New Paltz, N.Y., 12561.
