Adele M. Garrett

Adele M. (Golden) Garrett, 97, died peacefully Monday, August 17, 2015, at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany. Born in Troy on September 16, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Helen Connors Golden. Mrs. Garrett was raised in Troy and then in Guilderland and was a 1935 graduate of the former Altamont High School. She was employed by the former Myers Department Store in Albany for six years. She married Walter Garrett in 1942 and during World War II, she traveled with her late husband to the various bases that he was stationed at. She then assisted her husband in the family business, Grober Beauty Supply Co. in Latham as the bookkeeper and with warehouse deliveries for over 35 years before retiring in 1982. Adele wintered in Boynton Beach, FL and loved to read, play cards, and along with her husband, enjoyed socializing at the Van Schaick Country Club and the Colonie Lodge of Elks. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter M. Garrett, who died in 2002; dear sister of the late Mary "Jene" Spawn; loving aunt of Garrett A. (Donna) Spawn of Rotterdam and the late David L. (Susan) Spawn of Westmere; godmother of Donna (Thomas) Spoor of Guilderland. She is also survived by several other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. The funeral service will be Friday at 12 noon at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham with the Rev. James Daley officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
