Dorothy Nye

Dorothy Eva Nye, 94, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Fulton Center for Rehabilitation as a result of a COVID-19 infection. Born in Oneonta, NY, she was she daughter of the late Maude Betts Pronto. Orphaned at a young age, Dorothy was lovingly raised and cared for by the Fisher family of Bainbridge, NY. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and went on to attend Albany Business College where she met her future husband, the late Wells F. Nye. The couple settled and raised their family in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Schenectady. Dorothy enjoyed a career of over 20 years with the South Colonie School District as a data entry clerk. In her earlier years, she enjoyed canning and pickling the vegetables grown in her own garden. A gifted baker, Dorothy made wedding cakes on several occasions for friends and family. She was also a talented crafter and enjoyed knitting, cross stitching and crocheting. Throughout the years, Dorothy made countless hats, mittens, baby blankets and of course homemade Halloween costumes for her grandchildren.

Dorothy most enjoyed time spent with family, especially her grandchildren, who she loved unconditionally.

In addition to her mother and husband, Dorothy was predeceased by her son, Ray Nye.

Survivors include her daughters, Lois (Richard) Middleton of Eden, NC, Barbara (Brian) Powles of Delanson, NY; grandchildren, Samantha, Kaitlyn, Adam and Grace; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Sara, Cora and Margot; great-great-grandchildren, Aiden and Amelia.

As per Dorothy's wishes, there will be no funeral services.
