Gottfried W. Jenzer

Gottfried W. Jenzer 98, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. He was born in Basil, Switzerland on January 30, 1925, to Alfred and Anna Jenzer. He was educated in Switzerland and was a lieutenant serving in the armed forces of Switzerland during WWII.

In 1949 Fred immigrated to the United States and worked as a farmer. First in Bangor, Maine, then in Ghent, New York. On October 14, 1951, he married Doris Schuff and they moved to Schenectady in 1953. He became a US citizen and worked as a tool and die maker for General Electric and later for Ford Motor Co. on Green Island in Troy, retiring in 1985. Together with his wife he moved to Ballston Spa purchasing a property in need of restoration. Through dillgent work on the house and property it became a beautiful and inviting place. The family operated the Jenzer Greenhouse on Paisley Road in Ballston Spa. As a team with their daughters, they participated in the Saratoga Farmers Market for over 20 years.

Fred enjoyed gardening, sculpting, painting, weaving, rug making, needlepoint, woodcarving, classical music, and traveling. He was an inventor and created many time saving and practical devices around the farm. Lastly he was a member of the Mohawk Valley Woodcarvers Club and enjoyed their friendship immensely.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years Doris, and his younger brother Markus Jenzer. Fred is survived by his daughters Marion Jenzer Ekola (Don) and Catherine Jenzer (Bill Williams), grandchildren John Murray (Kristin) and Elaine Holton (Cody), great grandchildren Cody and Caiden Holton, nieces Beaotrix Jenzer and Marianna Jenzer, and several other nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service 11 a.m. Friday, May 5 at St. Mary's Cemetery, Church Avenue. Ballston Spa.
