Harold Jacobson Obituary
Harold (Hal) Jacobson, 89, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 2, 2017, at his home in Mariaville Lake, NY, surrounded by his family. Hal was born on November 26, 1927, in Worcester, MA, of Swedish Immigrants, Karl Axel Jacobson and Karin (Ljungberg) Jacobson, the first in his family to be born in the United States. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII, stationed in the Philippines. He graduated from Clark University in 1951, and then went to work for GE, where he worked for more than 35 years. Hal worked at a GE plant in Idaho Falls, where he loved camping in Yellowstone with his family, at GE Credit Corp in New York City, and eventually landed at GE in Lynn, MA, where he retired in 1992. He ended his career as a Public Relations Professional, writing speeches for GE Executives, and writing and publishing the plant wide newsletter. He spent most of his retirement years living in Ipswich and Newburyport, MA, pursuing his love of the outdoors by walking Plum Island, Crane Beach and Bradley Palmer State Park. In 2013, he relocated to Mariaville Lake, NY, where he spent his remaining years with his oldest son, Erik, and his family. Hal is survived by four sons; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; Erik (Carole) Jacobson and four grandchildren, Jeremiah (Courtney) Stelline, Lisa (Steve) Hill, of Schenectady, NY, Sam (Stephanie) Jacobson and Karin Jacobson, of Mariaville Lake, NY; four great-grandchildren, Gracie, Alex, Nicholas and Allie Kate, of Schenectady, NY; his son, Bruce (Anna Romer) and two grandchildren, David Jacobson and Peter Jacobson, of Framingham, MA; his son, Mark (Denise) and two grandchildren, Michael (Erin) Tennis and Ryan Tennis, of Amesbury, MA; and his son, Kurt Jacobson of Rowley, MA. He is also survived by his adored sister, Lillian (William) Stafinski of Millbury, MA; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, MaryJean; and his sister, Elvy (Johansson) McKnight. The Jacobson Family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Catholic Charities DayHaven Program for the hours of enjoyment and companionship they provided Hal during his years in Schenectady, NY. In addition, the family extends many thanks to Amsterdam Community Hospice for their care and compassion towards their father and grandfather in his final days. Memorial Services are planned for a later date in Ipswich, Massachusetts.
