John Sakrison Obituary

John Gilbert Sakrison, 93, died on May 25, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born

on August 16, 1929 in Stillwater, Minnesota, and was the son of the late Roy Henry and Esther Victoria (Bergseng) Sakrison. He received his B.S. degree from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and was a National Guardsman for five years. Mr. Sakrison was hired by General Electric in June of 1953 and moved to Schenectady, New York. He married the former Caroline

Catherine Scianghetti of Amsterdam, New York in 1954. In 1955, Mr. Sakrison pursued a career in Banking, starting as an accountant for Schenectady Savings Bank and earning the titles of; Senior Vice President, and Treasurer of Northeast Savings. Mr. Sakrison became a bank

stockholder relations officer when it went public. He retired in 1985 but continued in the role of

consultant for the bank.

Memberships and volunteer work included; the Schenectady Lions Club, The United Way and

The American Red Cross. Mr. Sakrison was a Board member of Schenectady Industrial

Development Corporation, and President of the Schenectady Chapter of The American Institute of Banking. He was involved with The United Way and The American Red Cross. He was a; current events aficionado, an American History enthusiast and a coin collector.

Mr. Sakrison had been an active counselor with Boy Scouts of America for thirty years. John enjoyed world travel, particularly to his home country of Norway, and he pursued physical

fitness with great passion. He was a communicant of Burnt Hills Methodist Church.

John was the beloved husband, best friend, and confidant of Caroline Catherine (Scianghetti) Sakrison; loving father of Kimberly Ann (John) Durant of Charlton, New York; Lisa (Glenn)

Phillips of Saratoga, New York; and Lynne (Ray) Murphy of Saranac Lake, N.Y. He was the

caring brother of the late Shirley (Sakrison) Reed; adored grandfather of; Shawn Lee (Lewis) Albert (Michael); Michael James Phillips (Lauren), Thomas John Sakrison (Emily) Durant, Jessica Caylen Phillips, and Taylor Nicholas Murphy. He was the cherished great-grandfather of

Andrew Albert, Brendan Albert, Evan Albert, Charles Sakrison Durant, and Auden Vocelle

Phillips.

While the community at large may appreciate and remember John G. Sakrison as a skilled

professional who volunteered generously in his community, his children, grandchildren, and

great-grandchildren will remember him for; introducing him to Broadway theater, New York City Ballet, Philadelphia Orchestra, golf, history, the world of Both disney and finance, map

reading, trains, travel, and literature. John G. Sakrison will be remembered for his presence at dance recitals and sporting events, clapping and smiling with pride as his grandchildren

demonstrated their talents.

Mr. Sakrison's funeral will be a private family service. Memorial contributions may be made to

the Charlton Historical Society, 2009 Maple Avenue, Charlton, New York, 12019.

His lawn was always perfect and My memory is that it was always so much fun at their house, he was the nicest man and a good listener. He also let me drive his tractor/lawn mower into the woods. He is truly missed!
