Mildred Bubniak Obituary

Mildred T. Bubniak AmsterdamMildred T. Bubniak, 94, formerly of Lodge Street, Amsterdam, passed into the hands of God on Thursday morning July 18, 2013 at River Ridge Living Center. Born in Schenectady on August 13, 1918, Mom was the daughter of the late Jozef and Franciszka (Buzanowska) Bonczyk. Whilst her children grew up and for years after, Ma always seemed to have some sort of employment, notable of which were stints in the '70s and '80s for NYS Tax, Edy Brush, and the one she like the best, Coleco. Ma was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and a past 'Madame President,' (with a gavel she kept) of the Rosary Society. Years ago, she was a part of the celebrated local Paderewski Choir. On November 6, 1937 she was married to Dad, Adam Bubniak, at St. Adalbert's Church in Schenectady. Dad died July 14, 2008, just past their 70th wedding anniversary. Two very different personalities, but more on that later. Ma is survived by four sons, Robert of Syracuse, Gerald (Susan) of Nortville, Michael (Sophie) of Amsterdam, and Timothy of Amsterdam; 10 grandchildren, Greg (Kathy), Jesse (Tina), Christopher, Rebecca Pratt (Leon), Matthew, Benjamin, Jessica Retersdorf (Adam), Nicholas, Brian and Danielle; six great-grandchildren, Thomas, Patrick, Nathan, Alyssa, Grace, and Hannah. She is survived a brother, Ed (Ceil) of Florida, noted Schenectady hoop player back in the day; as well as nieces and nephews. Ma was predeceased by sisters, Mary Novak (Ed), Bernice Malinowski (Joe); brothers, Stanley (aka Uncle Chief) (Catherine), Joe (aka Uncle Smokey ) (Reggie), Stephen (Antoinette), and William (Alice). To say the least, Ma was an assertive personality, while Dad was not so much. Somehow for 70 plus years it worked, although it was not always easy. Four sons were produced who did more than OK. Some of the credit, indeed, must go to them, from Dad a calm nature; from Mom a certain mental toughness, two good qualities. Thanks Dad, Thanks Mom. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, 50 Cornell Street with Rev. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the Chapel on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The Rosary Society will meet at 2:15 for a prayer service. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to St. Stanislaus Church or to the Salvation Army.

Bob, Gerry & Tim. My heart is in my gut. I just today learned of your Mom's passing. Mary & I were out of state on a week long vacation with virtually no access to internet or cell phone. and it hurts to know the service was last week and I didn't even know... My deepest regrets and sincerest sympathies. She really was "one of a kind". I never walked away from visiting with her without a smile on my face. It , as usual has been too long. If you ever get to the alma mater PLEASE look me up. Love to hook up with you guys again. & Charlie... we finally got a WS 'W'. Take care my cousins - Love Ken
