Nicholas Grasso Obituary

Nicholas John Grasso, 99, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 10, 2022. Born in Schenectady, Nicholas was the son of the late John Nicholas and Mary (Faraci) Grasso. He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, Fordham University and Albany Law School, and a member of the NYS Bar for 76 years. Nick was everyone’s go-to man for problem solving. He was unflappable in a crisis and always to the rescue. On his 99th birthday, he proclaimed that he might be an old man, but he would do anything he could to help his family and friends â€" they need just ask. Nick loved hearth and home, family, art, wood working and Yankees baseball. A fearless, dedicated lawyer who cared for his clients and enjoyed mentoring young lawyers, he just simply had a love of law. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life with style and worked extremely hard to guarantee an easier life for all of those around him. Nick was a quiet and reserved gentleman with a deep well of compassion and feelings. He will be missed. Nick married the love of his life, Anna V. (Battaglia) Grasso on November 10, 1946 and they spent 71 years together until her passing in 2014. One of his favorite stories was when he asked 14-year old Anna if he could see her new high school class ring. She gave it to him, and he refused to give it back until she became his girlfriend â€" his first and only. Case closed. Nick was also predeceased by his sons, John N. Grasso (Melody and her son Joe Pollack) and Lawrence P. Grasso (Deborah), and his brother Joseph F. Grasso. Nicholas is survived by his son Paul C. Grasso (Jeannette Le Gere) and his grandsons Nicholas J. Grasso (Clara Beth) and Patrick L. Grasso. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to nieces Sandi (Pecora) Timberlake and Barbara (Pecora) Arbour who called him every week since Anna’s death to exchange stories and current family events. Also, a very special thank you must be made to Aba Agyin, his caregiver, who poured her heart and soul into caring for him for 7 years and who, along with her daughter, Gabrielle, became family. Funeral Services for Nicholas will be Friday January 14, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. at the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Schenectady. My condolences to the Grasso family on this great loss. Nick was not only an incredibly skilled and accomplished attorney, but also the consummate family man. May Nick rest in God's peace. I will miss him.

I extend my deepest sympathies to Paul and the entire Grasso family. Mr. Grasso was simply the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time). His commitment and legal ability were both beyond compare. Most important, he was unfailingly dedicated to family and friends. I am sorry to learn of his passing.
