RUSSELL R. BOWERS Sr.

Russell R. Bowers, Sr., 86, of Middlebrook Ave., Ballston Spa, passed away Friday, November 13, 2009, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born in Schenectady, December 25, 1922, to his beloved parents, Harry O. and Florence Duell Bowers, Sr. Russell was an Army combat veteran of World War II. He was a sergeant in the 102nd Infantry serving in France, Belgium and Germany. Russell worked for Alco for 28 years and later for General Electric Co. for 15 years, retiring in 1984. He was a 57-year member of Union Fire Co. No. 2 in Ballston Spa. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ballston Spa, VFW Post 358 and American Legion Post 234, both of Ballston Spa. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and woodworking. Russell is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Louise Grumbles Bowers. They had celebrated their 65th anniversary on June 11, 2009. He is also survived by his children, Russell R. Bowers, II (Trudy) of Stillwater, Glenn E. Bowers, Sr (Patricia) of Ballston Spa and Bonnie Bowers Stone (Gary) of Saratoga Springs; 12 grandchildren, Kristine, Ruth, Kelly, Glenn, Jr., Tara, Russell, Robin, Betsy, Rebecca, Courtney, Scott and Shannon; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Harry Bowers of Ballston Spa; sister, Norma Lineback of Ballston Spa; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Beene of Austin, TX, Patricia Muholland of Fort Worth, TX; brother, Ed Grumbles of Austin, TX; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 17 at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Burial will follow at Ballston Spa Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
