Viola Gugliuzza Obituary

Viola Gugliuzza Glenville - Viola Gugliuzza, 100, passed away on April 17, 2024. She was born in Schenectady on April 15, 1924, to the late Joseph and Ida Schmuckmeier Bonk.
She graduated from Draper High School, and worked for a time at the General Electric Company. She married Anthony Gugliuzza in 1949, and raised their four children, of whom she took vigilant and loving care. Later, she pursued her passion for art. Her many beautiful paintings adorn the homes of her children and grandchildren, as well as those of her nieces and nephews. Viola kept us on our toes with her quick wit and dry sense of humor. She will be deeply missed.
Viola is survived by her loving children: Gary (Laurel) Gugliuzza, Marie (Thomas) Krauser, Margaret Houtz (Scott Retersdorf), and Catherine Gugliuzza. She is also survived by her brother, Laurence Bonk, and grandchildren Amy Krauser (Daniel Walters), David Krauser (Sarah White), Joseph (Kaye) Houtz, Daniel (Kate) Houtz, Christopher (Jade) Houtz, Andrew Gugliuzza, Melissa (Eugene) Fitzpatrick, Breanna (Efrain) Colon, Anna (Jake) Benninger, Sarah (Jacob) Lux. In addition, great grandchildren, Caitlin Krauser (Jeffrey Davis), William, Parker, Elizabeth, Theressa, Brooks, Hazel, Charlotte, and Laney Houtz, Amelia, Ciaran, Maura, Eileen, Brigid, and Niamh Fitzpatrick, and Leighanna Cuttle, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Anthony Gugliuzza, her brothers Joseph, Casper, and Robert Bonk, sisters Margaret Boink and Ida LaGrange, grandchildren Hope Genoski and Constance Gugliuzza and great-granddaughter Willa Houtz.
A calling hour will be held Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church 231 2nd St., Scotia immediately followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends are invited to contribute to The Center for Disability Services, or a charity of their choice in memory of Viola Gugliuzza.

I have known Viola for about 20 years through Gary (and Laurel ). And playing music together... I remember sitting with her at several family events...wedding and baby showers etc. I enjoyed her sense of humor, her insights about life and living, and her
determination. I´m thankful to have known her. Peace and consolation to all of the family.
