JAMES ABBOTT Obituary

Born December 28, 1946 in Chicago, IL. Passed December 26, 2016 in St. Charles, IL. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to a loving Husband, Dad, Son, Brother, Papa, Friend, and Physician. Jim graduated from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and attended medical school at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Following his graduation and residency, he served as pediatrician for the Armed Forces. Jim began practicing pediatrics in St. Charles, IL in 1978, where he practiced for 27 years. He was a beloved pediatrician by all the families he cared for, especially the children. In addition to his practice, Jim volunteered at the Tri Cities Well Child Clinic for many years, and participated on the core committee at Crisis Pregnancy Center of the Fox Valley. Jim retired professionally in 2005. Jim's greatest passion was spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, and most of all his beloved Chicago White Sox. Despite his physical ailments later in life, he enjoyed every moment with his 7 grandchildren, and spoiled them beyond belief. Jim led his life with strong faith, compassion, and selflessness that was an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed. Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy Abbott; sisters, Barbara Propati and Florence Hooker; brothers, Andrew Abbott and Sam Abbott; 3 children, Jim Abbott (Beth), Tony Abbott (Maggie), and Colleen McGrath (Michael); and 7 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his mother and father, Sam and Carmella Abbott. For those wishing to send an expression of condolence, in lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations to American Parkinson Disease Association (apdaparkinson.org - 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305). Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29th at Yurs Funeral Home (405 East Main St., St. Charles, IL 60174) from 4:00-8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 30th at St. Patrick Church (6N491 Crane Rd., St. Charles, IL 60175) at 11:00 am. Thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. There is little that I can say or do to ease your pain and suffering. May knowing that you are in the thoughts and prayers of many, bring a measure of comfort. Life is so short and those we love are gone from our lives too quickly. God's promise to empty the grave in the near future is found at Hosea 13:14.may

Dr. Abbott was our beloved Pediatrician in the early 80's. We will never forget how wonderfully he cared for our sons. He had such a kind and understanding heart. We will never forget him. May God bless you all with comfort and peace.

Pat and my deepest condolences to Kathy and family. My career paralleled Jim's. I always enjoyed and appreciated Jim as not only a colleague but also as a friend. We always reminisced the story of Tony's appendicitis! God bless. Dr. Joe Russ

I was so sorry to read of Jim's passing. We were St. Cajetan and Leo graduates together. To his brothers and sisters, my condolences. While I haven't seen much of Jim in recent years, I did have a nice conversation with him prior to our Leo 50th year dinner. We did talk a great deal waiting for the bus together at 111th and Rockwell and during the trip to Leo each day many years ago.. Jim always carried many more books with him than I. He will be missed.
