Carey Mizzell Obituary

Carey Allen Mizzell, age 87, of Sycamore, Alabama passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025. Carey was born in Sycamore, Alabama. Carey is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Ella Mizzell; his son Mike Mizzell (Deborah); his son Careylen Mizzell; his daughter Susan Bishop (Paul); and his son David Mizzell (Karen); his grandchildren Kristy Ponder, Lindsey Kissic, Kayla Caine, Michael Mizzell, Jordan Blair, Heather Ponder, Jenni Sylestine, DJ Mizzell and Matthew Bishop; 13 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Carey was preceded in death by his daughter Teresa Ponder and his daughter in law Angela Mizzell; his parents RK and Lillard Mizzell; his grandson Brian Ponder, and his siblings 4 brothers and 3 sisters. A visitation for Carey was held Monday, August 25, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Radney-Smith Funeral Home, 320 North Elm Avenue, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Carey was laid to rest in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, 1501 Talladega Highway, Sylacauga, AL 35150. Serving as pallbearers were Michael Mizzell, DJ Mizzell, Matthew Bishop, Brian Kissic, Paul Bishop, Patrick Sylestine, Brian Caine and Joey Ponder. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carey's memory may be made to Sycamore United Methodist Church.
