John Fowler West

John West Obituary

John Fowler West passed away on the evening of August 16th 2014, at 77 years old. He went to the Lord after a short but hard fought battle with a severe illness in St. Vincent's hospital in Birmingham, AL. He was born on September 19th, 1936, in Blount County, Alabama, to parents Lee and Zora Lee West. He had 12 siblings, which included: Bedford, Robert(Bob), Zora, Elizabeth(Bete), William(Bill), Joseph, Mary, Sally, Nancy, Rebecca, Martha and Hugh. He was married 54 years to his loving wife Cynthia Ellen West, and together they raised 3 children: Rusty, John (Richard), and Carolyn West. John was also a grandfather to Jeremy, Patrick, Josh, and Erica, and a great grandfather to Noah and Walker. John joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953 until 1957; serving during the Korean War efforts. Afterwards, he worked and retired at PEMCO Aeroplex (formerly known as Hayes International) for 37 years. John loved life on the water - whether it was on the beach by the ocean or at his home on Logan Martin Lake. He was a great fisherman, hunter, and diehard Alabama fan. John loved life, and philosophized living it to the fullest at the comforts of his home with family and friends. "If you want to walk the heavenly streets of gold, you gotta know the password, 'Roll, Tide, Roll!'" - Paul "Bear" Bryant.

Uncle John was my favorite Uncle. He was always there for us growing up. He even came to TX for my wedding and gave the toast at it after he had to ask me my husbands name. He will be missed. RIP Uncle John. Love you always.
