Lizzie Swain was born to the union of Amos and Lizzie Jones Swain. From a young age, Lizzie's heart was rooted in the service of the Lord, finding comfort in her faith and a home within the walls of Kingston Missionary Baptist Church. Her journey would lead her to St. Campbell Missionary Baptist Church alongside her husband, where her spirit shone brightly as she served as a doorkeeper of the Lord on the Usher board. Lizzie's firm faith guided her steps, and she found joy in spreading kindness and compassion to all those she encountered. Education was a cornerstone in Lizzie's life, as she graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in Childersburg, Alabama, and continued her learning journey at Gadsden State Community College. Her dedication and hard work extended beyond her studies as she spent 44 years as a Supervisor in the Custodian Department at Talladega College, leaving a lasting impact on all those she encountered. In July of 1966, Lizzie's life was forever changed when she united in Holy Matrimony with her beloved husband, Rev. Arthur Swain. Their union was blessed with a daughter named Rebecca, whom Lizzie cherished as the apple of her eye. Lizzie's kind-hearted nature, cooking and baking talents, and desire for finding the best bargains when shopping, brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. Her sweet potato pies were a legendary delight that warmed the hearts and bellies of many. Lizzie's love extended beyond the kitchen, as she embraced her role as a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished aunt to her many nieces and nephews. As time winds its course, we look ahead to a future where Lizzie's spirit transcends this earthly realm, as she embarks on her journey towards eternal peace. On the morning of Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga, Alabama, Lizzie Swain answered her Master's call and was reunited with her parents, Amos, Sr. and Lizzie Swain, sister, Bettye Jean Swain and those who preceded her into the realms beyond. Left to cherish Lizzie's memories are her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Rev. Arthur Swain of Alpine, Alabama; daughter, Rebecca (Alexander) Davis of Huntsville, Alabama; bonus daughter/niece, Jaclyn Wallace of Birmingham, Alabama; granddaughter, Addison Davis of Huntsville, Alabama; sister; Mary Alice McKinney of Alpine, Alabama; two brothers, Amos Swain, Jr. and Ronald (LaShawn) Swain, both of Alpine, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Lizzie Swain's legacy of faith, love, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we celebrate her remarkable life, let us remember the light she brought into the world and the love she shared with each of us. S.M.
