Bob Bush (81) of Germantown, Tennessee, who some claim was the inventor of "dad jokes", shared a last joke and a smile with one of his beloved granddaughters on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 9, 2023, before being called home to his Lord and Savior.
Bob was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Robert and Mildred Bush. Bob's childhood was spent with his older sister, Barbara, (they are making slightly inappropriate comments in Heaven as you read this) his younger brother, Stanley, and his twin sister Roberta "Birdie." Right now, he is chuckling that you are wondering if they were identical twins.
A big moment occurred in the Fall of 1958. After multiple failing attempts using horrible pick-up lines to convince the pretty blonde girl in class to go out on a date, she finally relented. Not because of his wit, humor, or great shoes but because of his basketball skills. Opposing teams knew they had to guard #14 as soon as he crossed half-court – he was a bit of a "chucker."
That date led to over 65 years of beautiful love between Bob and Connie. In fact, this October will be the 60th Anniversary of their wedding. Their commitment to each other to live out the promises we all take for granted too often (sickness and health, richer or poorer, 'til death do we part) will inspire their children and grandchildren forever. Over the last few years, they both showed enormous levels of compassion, strength, tenderness and most importantly, unconditional love, to guide each other through challenging health times. They were each other's rock – there was no Bob or Connie, there was only Bob AND Connie.
Bob was a hard worker. Whether it was at setting bowling pins in college, working salt mines under Lake Erie, or designing over 200 different pieces of golf equipment for companies such as True Temper Sports, Adams Golf, and Lynx Golf, Bob excelled. He was a trusted advisor to many of the legendary names in professional golf, but he was equally gifted (and enjoyed even more) coaching youth sports or leading his team of acolytes at church. His gentle touch was felt by all.
There are so many who will forever celebrate and miss Bob, including his wife, Connie; his sons Eric (Mari), Brian (Deanne), Corey (Kristen), and Kevin (Kristi); his grandchildren Alex, Haily, Paige, Jackson, and Lyla; his brother Stanley (Judy) and his sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Joe Hejduk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mildred, and his sisters, Barbara (Dick) and Birdie (Bill).
Friends and family will celebrate Bob's life on Wednesday, August 16th at 1:00 pm at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Germantown (2385 Riverdale Road.) The family will receive visitors prior to the service from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Germantown (https://cpcg.org/) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
