Joel Goff Braddock

1952 - 2023

Joel Goff Braddock, age 70, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023, in Germantown, TN.

Joel was born on November 4, 1952, in Memphis, TN. He was a 12-year student at Mabel C. Williams, (Germantown High School), and he graduated from Memphis State University in 1974 with a degree in business. He retired at age 65 from Krone NA, where he worked for 18 years.

Joel was a loving brother, son, husband, and father. He married Gail Shaw in 1975, and the couple had two daughters, Abigail and Mary. Grandchildren, Paul and Marjorie, were welcomed and celebrated additions. He treasured the time that was spent among family and friends.

Joel shared his love for Christ with everyone he met. He was an active member of Ridgeway Baptist Church serving as a deacon, an usher, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of multiple committees. Joel had incredible compassion for his community, often finding quiet ways to help others. His joy, faith, integrity, and humor made him a trusted friend of people across all ages and backgrounds.

Joel's passion for sports meant that he rarely missed an opportunity to pick up a bat and ball or watch Memphis Tigers or St. Louis Cardinals games. One of his greatest pleasures was coaching and encouraging others in recreational leagues, his Briarcrest basketball players, and especially his favorite grandson, Paul III.

Joel was known for his friendly demeanor, unassuming nature, gentle kindness, a strong handshake, and big smile. He wanted his friends to know that his peace came from the assurance of his salvation in Jesus. The family invites you to remember him next time you visit a baseball field or basketball court and encourages you to be purposeful in spending time and making memories with your family.

Joel is survived by the love of his life, Linda Gail Shaw Braddock, to whom he was married 47 years; his daughters, Dr. Abigail Braddock Simone (Dr. Paul Simone), and Mary Elizabeth Braddock; his grandchildren, Paul Steven III and Marjorie Leigh Simone; his siblings, Benjamin Braddock (Virginia) and Elizabeth Green (Evan), and sister-in-law Patsy Braddock. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Goff and Mary Elizabeth Cox Braddock, and his brother, John Braddock.

Visitation will be held on April 5, 2023, from 5:30 – 7:30 PM, and the funeral on April 6, 2023, at 10:00 AM, both at Memphis Funeral Home. Dr. Ashley Ray from Ridgeway Baptist Church will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joel's life.
