Samuel Brownlow Obituary

With heavy hearts and loving memories we mourn the passing of Samuel Brownlow on March 7, 2025, surrounded by his beloved wife June and parents, John and Sue. Samuel was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and died in San Francisco, California, where he made his home for the past six years. He is survived by his wife June Huang, his parents John and Sue Brownlow, his brother Jay, and his uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Samuel fought a long, courageous battle with cancer with the same steadfastness he showed in other areas of his life. While pretty laid back in many ways, when there was something he found interesting, he pursued it to the fullest, such as becoming an Eagle Scout, playing chess, learning software engineering, and cooking elaborate, tasty dishes.

He loved traveling, trying new food, including local specialties of places he visited, and going on outdoor adventures. Among those was a solo motorcycle journey along the coastal highway from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi in Viet Nam, even though he had never been to Asia and spoke only English.

He enjoyed playing board games with his family and was quite the competitor. He surprised everyone with Munchkin game t-shirts for all during a game break on a trip to the Grand Canyon.

Samuel and June enjoyed going to Funston Beach and other parks in and around San Francisco with their dog, Vesper. They also enjoyed traveling afar as well as taking some long weekends away to Big Sur.

The most frequent comments people have made about Samuel have been about his thoughtfulness. He enjoyed doing things for people that he knew they would especially like, and those blessed to know him felt this. He was also known for his personal warmth, quick wit, and ability to solve technical problems. Samuel was truly a devoted and loving husband, son, brother, and friend who is already greatly missed by all who knew him.

There will be a graveside service on March 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Cypress Lawn Cemetery in Colma, California. A memorial service in Memphis will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials may be made to UCSF for Head and Neck Cancer research at https://giving.ucsf.edu/fund/head-and-neck-cancer/01t8Z00000BdTzBQAV.
