William Whitten Obituary

William (Bill) Albert Whitten, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on October 1, 1948, in Memphis, TN, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

A graduate of Christian Brothers High School, Christian Brothers University, and Memphis State University. Bill had a long business career in the City of Memphis, starting with Holiday Inn, and continuing with roles at Union Planters National Bank, NBC Bank, and Schering-Plough Credit Union. He also spent many years teaching graduate classes at Webster University. After over twenty years, Bill retired as President of HealthNet Federal Credit Union.

Bill was a self-taught painter who found joy and peace in creativity and lifelong learning. He was also an avid reader and loved spending time on his back patio in Bartlett, especially when smoking a shoulder or ribs for family. Bill was also a long-time parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bartlett. A true romantic at heart, he never came home without flowers for his beloved wife.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Margaret Whitten, and his brother, James Whitten.

He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Deborah Whitten; his sons, Andy Whitten (Christina), and Daniel Whitten (Melissa), and his cherished grandchildren, Madelyn and Aiden, who brought him endless pride and joy. He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

A visitation at Canale Funeral Home, to celebrate Bill's life, will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Christian Brothers High School.

He will be forever remembered with love.
