Harvey Dillard Obituary

HAMPTON - Harvey Dillard, 83, answered the Master's call on Friday, Aug. 3, 2007. God sent one of his Angels to his home to bring our loved ' Mr. D' home for eternal rest. His life began on Dec. 25, 1923 in Sussex County, the son of the late Estelle Jones Dillard and Joseph Dillard. At an early age, he confessed his faith in God and became a member of Wilbourn Baptist Church. Upon his death, he was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. A long-time resident of Hampton, he retired from Langley Air Force Base as a Civil Worker in the field of heating for 20 years. His training at Langley led to establishing Dillard's Heating and Plumbing Service that he operated until his health began to decline. Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Banks Dillard. He leaves to cherish his memories a step-son, Lawrence Banks; granddaughter, Robin Banks of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Estelle Stith of Philadelphia, Pa and Susie Barnes (Curtis, Sr.) of Roslyn, Pa.; two sisters-in-law, Frances Dillard and Eleanor Dillard both of Petersburg, Va.; a special friend, Jeanette Clarey; and a long-time neighbor, Dorene Arrington both of Hampton, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A viewing will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Gethsemane Baptist Church with Pastor Dwight Riddick, officiating. Interment to follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. The Dillard family is receiving services of comfort at Nicholson-Cummings Funeral Home, 4304 Victoria Blvd., Hampton. (757) 728-0122. The family extends grateful appreciation to the doctors and staff at Virginia Oncology, Peninsula Urology Clinic and Personal Touch Home Care and Hospice for the loving care extended to our loved one.
