Chuck, Mark and Karen and families,
We were so saddened to learn of Jim's passing. Growing up on Barley Mow, we cherish the memories of a time when life was so simple and kind. Jim has always been a leader. Althought it's been many years, we remember him fondly with a smile that will never be forgotten. Love and hugs to all of his family and friends.

Jim and I were friends and classmates at New Hartford where we both were on swim teams. He was a great guy then, and judging from comments here, he became a great man. We last saw each other about 20 years ago, but I was still deeply saddened to see this news. My condolences to Jim's family.

Very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I knew Jim at D5 as both an Officer and later when he became a Civil Servant he was a rare combination of realist and optimist.

Jane, Scott,

I know nothing that can be written or said will truly ease the pain of your loss, but know that you're in our thoughts and prayers. Jim was a gem of a person who touched many lives with his infectious spirit and good will. I met him as a shipmate, but he became so much more as both a friend and mentor. He will be truly missed, and he will be remembered.

To the whole Obernesser Clan,
Jim was a real asset to the Coast Guard, and in particular those who have worked with him here in Portsmouth. Jim was thoughtful and always looked at the big picture. I'll always remember him as a good shipmate who did what was right. He fought his cancer battle with determination and grace. My condolences to those family & friends who will miss him. Fair Winds, Shipmate.

A true friend, colleague, and loving family man, Jim always had a kind word for everyone. Jim always took the time to make people feel special and was never without a smile. Jim's optism was infectious and each and every day was important to him. His passing leaves a tremendous void in all of our hearts.
