Arthur Daniel Vandermark

1966 - 2022

Arthur Daniel Vandermark, age 56, of Charlottesville, Virginia, departed this life unexpectedly on November 1, 2022. He was born on February 22, 1966, in Princeton, N.J. to Arthur D. Vandermark and Joan Speinheimer Snyder. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Sylvia Dodge.

Arthur worked as a general remodeling contractor. He loved the variety and challenges of the work. He was a talented woodworker and designed a shop in which he could design, create, and build. He loved to learn. He had an extensive library of woodworking books and took classes to develop his skills. In his 30's, he decided to learn Spanish. He loved exploring the Blue Ridge and beyond as often as possible and never met a dirt road he didn't like. And, he loved his animals – cats Jazz and Georgie and dogs Buddy and Bean – who are missing him.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Margaret Walter Vandermark; his father, John H. Snyder of Charlottesville; his sister, Sherri Vandermark Davis and her husband, Paul, of Barboursville; his brother-in-law, Gary Dodge of Oregon; his stepsisters, Yvonne Hobbs of Virginia Beach, Deborah Lawrence and her husband, Jeff, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and Brenda Coady and her husband, Mike, of Holly Springs, North Carolina; his sister-in-law, Libby Walter Yezzi and her husband, Rick, of Bumpass, Virginia; his brother-in-law John Walter and his wife Linda, of Mechanicsville, Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Arthur was an old, gentle soul who cared deeply about his family and animals, craved knowledge and new adventures, and often had wanderlust. His absence leaves a huge void in all our lives.

The family wants to express our heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Sentara Martha Jefferson Cancer Center and Radiology for their care and treatment of Art over the past several months.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
