Avis Key Morse

1966 - 2023

Avis Key Morse, an inspiring beacon of compassion, community service, and faith, passed away on May 28, 2023, at the age of 57. Born on February 15, 1966, in Charlottesville, Virginia, Avis legacy of commitment and love endures through the many lives she touched.

Avis was the cherished daughter of Nancy and the late Floyd W. Key Jr., and the devoted sister of Floyd W. Key III and his wife, Rhonda, of Charlottesville, Virginia, Steven T. Key of Kissimmee, Florida, Bryan L. Key and his wife, Danielle of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Michael D. Key of Richmond, Virginia. After graduating from Charlottesville High School in 1984, she pursued further studies at Piedmont Community College, demonstrating a lifelong dedication to learning.

Avis was a beloved partner to Timothy D. Morse of Louisa, Virginia and the devoted mother to Tory N. Key of Arlington, Virginia, and Shemya M. Key of Charlotte, North Carolina. Her profound love for her family was a testament to her generous spirit and the depth of her heart.

Avis served the community with passion and dedication. She spent almost 14 years at the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library and then 25 transformative years at the Albemarle County Public School system, where she was most recently a Budget and Grant Analyst. Her significant contributions to the education sector underscore her commitment to her community and personal growth.

A faithful member of the First Baptist Church located on 632 W Main St, Avis' spirituality was a guiding force throughout her life. Her kindness, generosity, and dedication to service were ever-present in all her interactions.

Her passing leaves an irreplaceable void, but her life and legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her. Avis's memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family (nieces and nephews), friends, and the community she passionately served.

She will lie in repose from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at J. F. Bell Funeral Home Chapel, 108 6th St. NW, Charlottesville, Va.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 632 W. Main St., Charlottesville, Va.
