Bertha Elmia Scott Harris Minor, 70, of Charlottesville, Virginia was granted everlasting peace and eternal rest by her heavenly father on Sunday, August 27, 2017, at the Cedars Healthcare Center. She was born on July 15, 1947, in Charlottesville, Va. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Wayne C. Minor; her parents, Daniel E. Scott, Sr. and Annie Miller Scott; and her sister, Mary J. Jordan. She is survived her beloved children, a daughter, Shawn J. Harris of Charlottesville; three sons, Curtis W. Minor and partner, Casey Haney of Charlottesville, Va., Terrance D. Minor and his wife, Lynne of Palmyra, Va., Travis D. Minor and his wife, Jennifer of Palmyra, Va.; six grandchildren, Mikyla, Mason, Tramayne, Tramari, Tamia, and Laiken; beloved mother, Delores L. Scott, of North Garden, Va.; four beloved sisters, Annie Lauretta Smith of Charlottesville, Va., Theresa Odom of Charlottesville, Va., Sheila Burton of Waynesboro, Va., and Deborah Tyler of Charlottesville, Va.; a beloved brother, Daniel E. Scott, Jr. and his fianc?e, Teresa Morris of Crozet, Va.; two beloved nieces who cared for her, Kimberly A. Smith, CNA and Adrienne L. Burton, LPN of Charlottesville, Va.; several other beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Bertha attended Norfolk State University and was a proud graduate of Jackson P. Burley High School's class of 1965. She attended the Wake Forest Baptist Church, where she loved lifting her voice in praise as a member of the choir. Her friendly demeanor and warm smile served her well during her employment at the U.Va. Cancer Center, work that was near and dear to her. She treasured bringing positive energy to the patients she met. The eldest of seven, Bertha loved her family and would spare nothing to help them whenever she could. The joy heard in her robust laughter will be forever be missed, the sacrifices she made will not be forgotten, and the kindness and love she extended will sustain us. Although dementia dimmed her light, it never broke her spirit. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Wake Forest Baptist Church in Scottsville, Va., with Pastor Sherman A. Collins, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wake Forest Baptist Church, one hour prior to the services.
