Nancy Goodman Obituary

Nancy Virginia Hartman Goodman

October 21, 1946 - September 28, 2024

Nancy Virginia Hartman Goodman, 77, of Earlysville, reunited with her many loved ones and the arms of Jesus Saturday, September 28, 2024 having fought a long cruel battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Born in Cumberland, MD October 21, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Wesley (Kline) and Iva Hartman. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, William Goodman; brothers, Jessie and James Hartman; stepchildren, Kevin and Stuart Goodman; and nephews, Wesley Wilson and Dillon Darr. She is survived by her adoring son, Jon Goodman; dear and devoted sister, Norma (Hartman) Kramer and her husband, Louis Kramer; nieces, Catherine Hilton, Debra Wilson, Connie Darr and Sue Ellen Sowers; and nephews, Robert Wilson and Steve Hartman. She is also survived by THE lights of her eyes, grandchildren, Robert Wesley Goodman and Kathryn Logan Smith and five beautiful great-grandchildren.

Long before being robbed of her well-deserved, golden years, Nancy lived an active, joyous and memory filled, yet, hard working life.

She was proud of the fact that both of her parents grew up deep in the West Virginia Mountains, Appalachia. Neither had more than a few years of formal education yet hard work and determination allowed them to purchase a small farm and raise their family in the small town of Cresaptown.

She began working at the age of 14 and did so with the ethics her dear Daddy instilled in her. She worked all of the way through and graduated with pride from Allegheny High School.

Shortly after her son was born she followed her big sister, Norma, to the "Big City" of Charlottesville.

She worked as an amazing waitress for many years at Farmington Country Club (getting kissed by her "Uncle Benny" Goodman was a fun fact!) and the Prime Rib. She worked hard and took pride in her work. It is along the way that she met her lifelong friend and soul sister, Alma Gibson. She later worked and retired as Office Manager at A&P. While working there, she started a dump truck delivery business. After retirement she began making and selling hand made handbags. As always, she worked hard and took pride in her work. People and family that witnessed her in action will always be amazed by her tireless energy and strong work ethic. She never wasted a minute of daylight.

Nancy was always planning. Whether it be parties, dinners, ski trips or "the girls" vacations in Florida. She was the organizer, "the promoter"! She was the life of the party and shared endless laughs with Norma, Alma, Gladys and so many of her friends and family. Oh the memories they could tell!

She enjoyed cooking, baking, crafts, flower arranging, gardening, sewing, making people laugh, having fun and entertaining. She had many talents but none more paramount than loving and raising her family. As with everything she did, she worked hard and with pride in her work. This legacy is unmatched and remains a standard that her ever grateful son, two grandchildren and those who knew and loved her will continue to aspire.

Nancy Virginia Hartman Goodman was here! She lived, laughed, cried and loved. She made home happy and she left an indelible mark. She will be missed immensely, her void never filled but forever loved and remembered. What else could one ask for?

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Piedmont for their assistance during this time. The family would also like to recognize the prodigious, tireless and loving care her big sister, Norma, has provided over these last difficult years. She enabled Nancy to spend her last years in the comfort of her own home while receiving unmatched tender loving care. Those efforts will, also, never be forgotten but forever appreciated.

There will be a celebration of Nancy's life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Teague Funeral Service, 2260 Ivy Road Charlottesville, VA 22903. Bishop Matthew Jones will preside over Nancy's Celebration.
