Nancy Johnson Obituary

Nancy L. Johnson, 85, from Hillsborough, N.H., and a long-time resident of Raleigh, N.C., died peacefully on December 4, 2022, surrounded by loving family in her residence in Charlottesville, Va. Born on July 8, 1937, in Henniker, N.H., she was preceded in death by parents, Roscoe and Katherine Crane, and her older siblings, Richard Crane and Barbara Anne Barbee.

Nancy grew up on her family dairy farm in Hillsboro, N.H., earned a degree in Foods and Nutrition from UNH, and served in International Voluntary Services in Laos. She raised three children while living in the Philippines, Peru, and Raleigh. She earned a Master's in Public Health from UNC and worked for the State of N.C. as a nutritionist for over 20 years. She enjoyed traveling and during retirement devoted herself to making hundreds of quilts for family and donations.

Nancy is survived by her children and their spouses, Warren Johnson and Marianne Carrere of Frederick, Maryland, Susan Johnson and Mark Maurer of Olympia, Washington, and Steven Johnson and Donna Kaiser of Charlottesville, Virginia; her grandchildren, Daniel, Isabella, and Nicholas Johnson, Cassandra and Marissa Maurer; her step-grandchildren, Drew and Elizabeth Kaiser; great-granddaughter, Margarette Morris; the father of her children, Bill Johnson; and her siblings, Sally Fleming and John Crane.

The family thanks the many caregivers, health providers, and the Hospice of Piedmont for the loving care they provided her in the final years of her life.

A memorial service will be held this summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry.

Nancy Johnson had a major positive impact on the Sanchez family, both in the Philippines and in Raleigh. I personally was very fond of her and her common sense. Just last week Cheryl was commenting on Nancy Johnson's quilt, that after 40 years is still in one peace , used daily by our dog Pancho to help climb on our bed. Rest well, dear friend. Pedro
