Oram Francoise Obituary

Francoise Marguerite Oram My dear mother skated up to heaven on Saturday, November 2, 2013,wrapped warmly in the love of her family. Born on May 31, 1921, in Montreal, Canada, she was fluent in French and English. After moving to Washington, D.C., in 1941, to work at the British Embassy, she met and married Frederick James Oram. Virginia became her home for the next 72 years. Always interested in politics, she became a US citizen in 1967. Mother's passion for reading, knitting and Democratic politics engaged her until the end. Francoise spent most of her life in Arlington, Virginia, raising her children and volunteering . Returning to the workforce in the 1970's, she spent many years working at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington. My mother was widowed in 2001 and lived in Luray, Virginia, before moving to Charlottesville in 2007. Her seven children, fourteen grandchildren, and eighteen great- grandchildren are spread far and wide. In Albemarle County, she leaves her daughter, Phyllis Oram Ripper; son-in-law, Chris; granddaughter, Emily; and grandson, Nathan. We will miss her. An accident followed by heart failure brought my mother's life to an end following a beautiful afternoon at Carter's Mountain. Many thanks to the loving and compassionate nursing staff at Martha Jefferson Hospital for the care and warmth they extended to all of us during this difficult time. Also, thank you to the dedicated staff at Morningside Assisted Living who made my Mother feel safe and happy these last three years. In lieu of flowers, a random act of kindness extended to a senior citizen would be appreciated.
