Samuel W. Averett

AGE: 85 • Chatham Twp.

Samuel W. Averett, 85, died Monday, May 7, 2012 at Pine Acres Nursing Home in Madison. Born at home, Dixiedale Farm in Chatham Township, he lived most of his life there. He was the son of Elliott Averett and Martha Snead Averett, and the youngest of their five children. Sam was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy in NH and attended Princeton University (Class of 1948). He enlisted in the US Navy and served in WWII, joined the Navy Reserve, and was recalled into service during the Korean War. Sam was Business Manager at the Seeing Eye in Morristown for almost two decades. He took the most pride in operating his family farm, which was established in 1911. He will be well remembered for his commitment to his local community. He was a trustee of the Chatham Township Fire Department, served on the George Conrad Scholarship Award committee, and was a member for many years of the Kiwanis Club of the Chathams.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 51 years, Jean Ward Averett, and many loving nieces and nephews and their families.

An outstanding man that was very dedicated to his family and worked his entire life to make his family and people around him happy. He will be missed by all of his family especially ours in Fair Haven Vermont. Godspeed Uncle Sam
