Davis Donothan Hartness Sr., 88, of Starkville, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, surrounded by love ones.
Visitation is 5 - 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at Welch Funeral Home, in Starkville.

Davis was born Sept. 1, 1930, in Starkville, to Homer Milton and Stella Mae (Andrews) Hartness.
Mr. Hartness was preceded in death by son, Milton C. Hartness; brothers: Felix Hartness, Eugene Hartness, Charles Hartness, Homer B.Hartness; and sisters: Stella Hartness Hull and Edith Ann McCoy.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Peggy Kolb Hartness of Starkville; sons: Gary (Donna) Hartness, Long Beach, Darryl (Tricia) Hartness, Columbus, Donny (Melba) Hartness, Marianna, Arkansas; John (Paula) Hartness, Marianna, Arkansas; daughters: Brenda (Tom) Brooks, Starkville, Glenda (Patrick) Tranum, Sturgis,

Davis enjoyed gardening, farming, hunting, and riding four-wheelers on his home place. He lived life to the fullest and left this world on empty, leaving all of his love to his family and friends. He was a diesel mechanic and a cattle farmer. Although he dropped out of school in 10th grade to go to work, he was the greatest teacher to anyone that took the time to learn from him.  His best times revolved around his sons and grandchildren coming home for the holidays to hunt. He always planted huge gardens to fill freezers for family and friends. He was a generous soul that would do anything for anybody.
Serving as pallbearers are Donothan Hartness, Macon Perkins, Dillon Perkins, Vince Tenhet, Donny Miller, and Ben Pickin.  Honorary pallbearers are Wally Miles, Eugene (Pee Wee) Oswalt, Andy Kemp, David Robertson, Lamar Kolb, and Jack Rhodes.
