William Marlen Raines Mapel

William Marlen Raines Mapel of New Castle, NH, formerly of Darien, CT died peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 23, 2013 after a prolonged struggle with Lewy Body Dementia

Born September 17, 1931 in Maryville, MO, he is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Gail (nee Manchee), daughter Susan of Cambridge, MA, sons Stephen of Sherman Oaks, CA and Daniel of New Hope, VA, daughters-in-law Tracy Walton, Karen Swallow, and Mary Mapel, and grandchildren Clara, William, Jackson, and Gabriel Bill was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and Yale University, 1953

He was employed by Citibank in New York for 33 years As Senior Vice President he took pride in mentoring and inspiring those who worked under his leadership Upon retirement, he served on numerous corporate and non-profit boards, including the Miramichi Salmon Association, the Atlantic Salmon Federation, and the Quebec-Labrador Foundation

Bill was a golfer and avid salmon fisherman and was passionate in his pursuit of the sport all over the world His friends were very important to him, some going back 65 years He prided himself on being a gentle man and was very kind and generous to his family and friends

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to the Miramichi Salmon Association (http://wwwmiramichisalmonca) or the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, SW, Lilburn, GA 30047 A memorial celebration in honor of Bill's life will be held in the spring in Darien
