Colin Winkelmann Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

WINKELMANN, Colin E. 29, died Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at his home in Greenville, NC. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Colin's passion, since age 11, was performing stunts on BMX bikes. At age 19 he turned pro and was best known throughout the BMX world as a rider that was willing to try any stunt, pushing the limits and opening minds to what's possible on a bicycle. His legacy is well documented in BMX magazines, videos, on TV, and in the Guinness Book of World Records. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Winkelmann. Surviving are his mother, Barbara E. Winkelmann of New Carlisle, OH; sister, Amy W. Scoggins and husband, Neal, of Thomasville, GA; niece, Riley Scoggins of Thomasville, GA; maternal grandmother, Shirley Eason of Lake City, MI; several uncles, aunts and cousins; and special friends, Vicky Sawyers, Ann Hodges Willoughby and the entire BMX community. A memorial celebration will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Brixx Ice Co., 500 East 1st Street, Dayton, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the Colin Winkelmann Scholarship Fund, Woodward Camp, P. O. Box 93, 134 Sports Camp Drive, Woodward, PA 16882. Arrangements are by Wilkerson Funeral Home and Crematory.
