Gail ANDREWS Obituary

News Death Notice

ANDREWS, Gail Elizabeth Passed away peacefully with family and friends by her side on April 13, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer for the last 15 years. She was born November 5, 1958. Gail loved the outdoors and travel, combining the two interests to visit numerous national parks and landmarks. She had just recently completed another cross country trip in February and March. Gail also had a passion for education, her beloved dogs, and all things Winnie the Pooh. Gail graduated from Warren Western Reserve High School in 1976. Gail received her undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University in 1980 and her master's degree from the University of Dayton. Gail also received a paralegal degree from Northern Arizona University and spent a few years working in and managing a law firm. But Gail's first love was teaching and she taught special education and elementary classes for about 25 years, most of it in Urbana, Ohio. She retired from her career in education from the Urbana City School District in 2011. Gail is survived by her parents Fred and Nancy Andrews of Warren, Ohio; brothers Brad (Joanne) of Boise, Idaho; Brian (Linda) of Wadsworth, Ohio; nephews Alex and Ryan; and niece Lauren; and her very dear friend, Marcia Ridgley. Always the teacher, Gail dedicated her body to the Wright State University School of Medicine, and as a consequence, in lieu of funeral services, Celebration of Life services are being planned at the convenience of the family and friends. The family would like to thank all of the health care providers who graciously helped Gail through the last 15 years, there are simply too many to name. Also thank you to all at Hospice of Dayton for your compassion during Gail's final days. We appreciate everyone's assistance, kindness and generosity. For many years Gail was an active supporter and participant in many American Cancer Society Relay For Life events including the 2012 Relay in Champaign County, Ohio. The family encourages anyone interested in making a donation in remembrance of Gail, to make a donation to the Relay For Life or to a charity of your choice.
