Faulconer, James Gayle "Jim"
July 1, 2028 – August 19, 2025
James Gayle Faulconer passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on July 1, 2028, in Jackson, Mississippi, to James and Viola (Brock) Faulconer, Jim lived a long and meaningful life marked by curiosity, service and devotion to his family and friends. Jim married Marilyn (Brondell) Faulconer in 1954 and spent sixty-six happy years together until Marilyn's passing in 2020.
Jim was preceded in death by one older sister, Annette Gillespie of Winchester, KY and one younger brother Harold Faulconer of Lexington, KY.
Jim is survived by his four children: Walt (Cindy) Faulconer of Southport, NC; Laura Faulconer (Paul Gainsback) of McGaheysville, VA; Julie Faulconer (Larry Conkel, deceased) of Grove City, OH; and Marsha Faulconer (Walt Pierce) of Lakewood, CO. Jim is also survived by two grandchildren: Logan (Michelle) Faulconer of Frederick, MD and Kyle Faulconer of Cordova, TN; and two great-grandchildren: Luke and Annie Faulconer of Frederick, MD. Jim deeply loved and enjoyed his family.
Jim was a man of intellect and deep thought, an avid reader who was always eager to engage in stimulating conversations and lively discussion groups. Jim was a gifted storyteller and aficionado of limericks and Kentucky corn-ball humor from where he grew up. He was a natural organizer, having the rare ability to bring people together through words, ideas, and shared experiences.
He was called to a life of service as both a Disciples of Christ minister, a pastoral counselor/therapist, and mental health administrator guiding others with wisdom and compassion. His vocation reflected his lifelong commitment to helping people through their struggles and helping them find meaning, comfort, and strength in life.
Outside of his work, Jim pursued many passions. He loved traveling with his wife and family, and together they explored the world with curiosity and joy. At home, he found creativity in woodworking, crafting pieces that blended skill and beauty. He also poured his energy into family genealogy, carefully preserving stories and connections for future generations. Jim still hosted multiple men's discussion groups up until the time of his death. The family wants to thank his devoted friends Gary, Wil, Ken, Terry, Mike, Dave, Judy, and John.
Jim is remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the countless conversations, memories, and lessons he shared.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 30th at 2:00 PM, at David's Cemetery, 4600 Mad River Rd, Dayton, OH, in the Community Mausoleum Chapel. There will be a reception immediately following the service. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a remarkable man.
Please, no flowers. Just share your favorite story with family and friends.
