Janet Fassler Obituary

Fassler, Janet

Janet Lee (Walker) Fassler, 91, passed away January 6, 2025, after a brief stay at the Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Edward (Roy) Fassler (2009) and son, Bruce Edward Fassler (2019). She was born August 17, 1933, in Lanham, WV to Ernest D. Walker and Edith Landers.

Janet grew up in the Beckley, WV area and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley in 1951. She went to nursing school at St. Mary's School of Nursing in Huntington, WV, graduating in 1954. She then enrolled at the University of Cincinnati to work on her bachelor's degree. There she met her future husband, Roy, who was doing his oral surgery residency at Cincinnati General Hospital. They married in 1956 and shortly thereafter, moved to Middletown, OH where Roy established his oral surgery practice. Janet worked part-time in the office with Roy as she was also busy raising their family of 6 children. Janet and Roy retired in 1985 and moved to Sarasota, FL in 1988. In Sarasota Janet loved playing tennis, and she kept busy doing part-time private-duty nursing and volunteer work. Janet moved to Nashville, TN where she lived the last 3 years of her life in assisted living/memory care.

Janet will always be remembered for her devotion to her faith which transcended into everyday personal interactions. She had a very outgoing personality and was always smiling, positive and generous with her time and love. Even though it involved long-distance traveling, she and Roy attended many graduation ceremonies for their children and grandchildren. While living in Florida, Janet would cherish visits from her children and their families as she relished being the ultimate hostess at the cabana on Lido Beach, leaving no details omitted.

Janet is survived by 4 sons and one daughter: Dr. Paul (Vickie) Fassler of Cincinnati, OH, Dr. Cheryl Fassler of Nashville, TN, Michael (Annie) Fassler of Sturgis, MI, Kevin (Judy) Fassler of Middletown, OH, Dr. John (Sheila) Fassler of Charlotte, NC., 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at 10:30 am CST on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Saint Henry Catholic Church, 6401 Harding Pike in Nashville, TN. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Patrick Kibby at 11:30 am, with lunch immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Interment of cremains will be in Sarasota, FL.

A special thanks to Dr. Tracey Doering and to Penny Powers for their devoted attention to Janet, as well as to the wonderful staff at Belmont Village.

I spent many years with Janet playing tennis at the Meadows Country Club in Sarasota, FL. She served on the tennis committee, played team tennis and hosted many tennis functions. She was truly a joy, always smiling and a dear friend. May she RIP
