John Stumbo Obituary

Stumbo, John Charles

John Charles "Johnny" Stumbo, 70, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, August 25th, 2025 at Ohio State University Medical Center. He was born March 8th, 1955 in Springfield, Ohio the son of Forest E. (Bud) and Caroline Stumbo. John was a 1973 graduate of Greenon High School and spent his entire career as a skilled concrete finisher, working with Diamond Ready Mix and Brock Poured Walls. He cherished family and time spent taking his grandchildren fishing and sharing in their adventures. A fan of lottery ticket scratch-offs, he delighted in the thrill of a win. His passion for cars was evident in his beloved 1976 Vega, affectionately known as "Purple Haze," and in his longtime involvement with the Medway Car Club. He enjoyed attending car shows and being part of the community that shared his enthusiasm. Johnny's family was the center of his world. His last words were, "Tell everyone I love them," a testament to the gentle and kind-hearted man he was. He shared a special bond with his only great-grandchild, Maverick, who was truly the apple of his eye. He will be remembered as a peaceful, simple man who loved deeply and lived faithfully. John is survived by a son, John Stumbo II; grandchildren: Vanessa, Zachary, Katelynn & John III; a great-grandson, Maverick; his siblings: Debbie Frank, Ginny McAnally and Buddy Stumbo; mother of his children, Adele Adkins and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Devin Hammonds. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 29th, 2025 from 6-8 p.m. at. Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, Springfield. The funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, August 30th, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Medway Cemetery. In honor of John, the family requests that those attending his services dress casually, as he loved nothing more than wearing a t-shirt and jeans.
