News Death Notice

BOTWIN, Michael Joel 68, of Fairborn, Ohio, was killed Friday October 11, 2013 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born May 3, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Penn State University, and held a Masters from Texas AM along with numerous other professional certifications as a safety engineer. He retired from the US Naval reserve as a Lieutenant Commander and worked currently for the last 30 years as a safety engineer for the US Air Force. He was a certified pilot with over 3000 hrs of flight time, a flight instructor, and mechanic. His love of flying had him belong to the Experimental Aircraft Association, Airplane Owners and Pilots Association, and Cessna Pilots Association. Mike loved history, the military and red meat. He was an avid collector and family historian. His mustard was brown, his fries well done, and any old movie on TV. Survivors include his two sons, Joel and Jon Botwin; sister-in-law, Jayne Lee; nieces, Dori and Dani Lee. He was preceded in death by his mother Rosalind Ehrlich and parents Harry and Maileen Botwin, also brother Bob Lee. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday Nov 9th at 11:30am at the Dignam-Whitmore American Legion Post 526, 526 Legion Lane, Fairborn, with military honors to follow. Family will greet friends following the service. In lieu of flower please make a donation to the Commemorative Air Force or local aviation museum.
