News Death Notice

TRAVIS, Robert J. "Bob" age 88 of Kettering, passed away Monday, January 5, 2009 at Heartland of Centerville. Bob was born on September 17, 1920 in Dayton to Amos and Catherine (Lentz) Travis. He was preceded in death by his wives, Carol in 1976 and Colette Travis in 2003, sister, Marie Silver, brothers, Elmer, Harry, Charles Travis and grandson, Louis (Bud) Erisman. He is survived by his five children, James C. and his wife, Carolyn "Sue" of Centerville, David W. and his wife, Joyce of Beavercreek, Bonnie Erisman Shumaker of Palm Coast, Florida, Terri Carter and her husband, William of Miamisburg, and Tina Hopkins and her husband Steve of Kettering; 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren , 1 great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was a graduate of Stivers High School, a Navy Veteran "Seabee" of WW II and retired from N.C.R., where he spent several years as the Secretary/Treasurer for the U.A.W. Local 1616. After retiring from N.C.R. , Bob went on to work in the Montgomery County Clerk of Courts office and as Administrator for the County Home, and then for the State of Ohio as Administrator at the Ohio Dept. of Transportation, District 8. He also worked on the board for the United Way of Dayton. Bob was a very active member of the Montgomery County Democratic Party running for State Representative from Ohios 38th district in 1976 and later gave much of his time to the "Notch Babies" campaign and was also member of the V.F.W. Post 2800. Bob was an avid golfer and was a charter member of N.C.R. Country Club since its beginning in 1954. Friends may call from 5-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2009 at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Rd. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 820 Bowen St., Dayton, Ohio 45410. Interment Calvary Cemetery. The family wishes to express there appreciation to the Arcadia Unit at Heartland of Centerville for their care and kindness during Bobs stay. The family suggests memorial contributions in Mr. Travis name to be made to the United Way of Dayton. Condolences may be made to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com
