Richard Stuckey Obituary

Richard A. Stuckey

Stuart, FL - Richard A. Stuckey of Stuart, Florida passed away on April 24, 2021 at the age of 89.

Born in Camden, N.J. on July 24, 1931 to the late Arthur DuRell Stuckey and Mae Krall Stuckey, he grew up in Roebling, N.J., graduating from Florence High School. After graduating from The Penn State University with degrees in economics and accounting, he married Barbara M. Perry on November 14, 1953, and joined the DuPont Company shortly thereafter. Weeks later he joined the Navy, rising to the rank of lieutenant while serving on a Radar picket ship in the Atlantic and a Seaplane tender ship in the Pacific.

He rejoined the DuPont Company in 1956 after his naval service and later earned an MBA at the University of Delaware. He married Elizabeth A. Neville on March 17, 1973. In 1986 he became Dupont's Chief Economist, only the fourth since 1933. He was well known for his accurate economic forecasts and travelled widely, speaking to industry and international groups until his retirement in 1994.

He had many interests, including boating, golf and ice dance, and was President of The Skating Club of Wilmington. He spent many hours during his summers at Jersey beaches, first as a lifeguard when a young man, and later in life could often be seen standing at the water's edge, gazing out to sea.

He is survived by two sons, Rick and David (and his wife Annette), and his daughter, Melissa (and her husband Joe Cullen). He is also survived by his nine grandchildren. He is predeceased by his youngest son, Donald Stuckey, his sister, Shirley Oberg, and his first and second wives.

My wife Sandi and I send our "Prayers for the Peace that Passeth Understanding" on the passing of Richard "Dick" Stuckey to his family.

I first met Dick Stuckey in 1978, not long after joining the DuPont Co Public Affairs Department. I liked him immediately for his straight forward no-nonsense manner, but really for his kindness. Dick was a man whose voice was heard and listened to inside the halls at the senior levels of DuPont. Years later, I came to know some of his family, notably his son Rick, who is a fine person.

Our condolences to his family.
