Age 82, a lifelong resident of Wilmington, DE, died at home on Friday, May 20, 2005, after a long illness.
Robert, affectionately known as "Grumps" by his grandchildren, graduated from A.I. DuPont High School and was an all-state football player. He served with distinction in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in the Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic action against an "out numbering enemy force" in Germany, April 6, 1945. After military service, he went on to graduate from the University of Delaware where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He then worked for the DuPont Company in advertising. Taking an early retirement, he became an independent manufacturer's representative and was actively involved in many entrepreneur-ial ventures. An avid golfer, he was a long-standing member of the Wilmington Country Club.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marcia Bradway Snowberger; son, Robert F. Snowberger of Wilmington; 2 daughters, Ann S. McCune of Wilmington and Robin B. Swenarton and her husband, John T. Swenarton, of Stonington, CT; his sister, Nancy Pleasants of Wilmington; 6 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Sharpley on Monday, June 20, 2005, at 11 am. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests contributions in his name to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Rd., #100, Wilmington, DE 19810.
