After college he played professionally in the Houston Astros farm system. He further earned consecutive Delco League MVP awards, as well as various other honors throughout his passionate baseball career. His hobbies included golf, cooking and watching his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. He was ecstatic when the Eagles won the Super Bowl stating it was “the greatest day ever”. Joe worked for Glen Mills Schools in Glen Mills, PA. His last years were spent working at the Archstone Recovery Center of the Palm Beaches, FL. Joe’s hard work, dedication and passion allowed many to overcome their addictions and lead successful and productive lives. Joe is survived by his parents, Harry J. Miller and Doris G. Miller of Naples, FL; wife Victoria Bennett Miller of Hypoluxo, FL; sisters June Miller Kaitz (Jim) and Lynne Miller Mahoney (Phil); sons from previous marriages Jeffrey, Nicolas and Jordan; and nephews Matt, Brian and Kyle Kaitz and great niece Khloe Kaitz. I was fortunate to spend a summer playing for Coach Miller back in '95. He treated me well and was a joy to be around. He had countless stories from his time in the game and was always eager to share them. I fondly recall chatting with him and shagging fly balls during pre-game batting practice on several occasions. I don´t think I saw him after that summer, but I still cherish the good times with him, his staff, and that team. Today, while at the Glen Mills ball fields for a youth baseball tournament, I learned of his passing from a current staff member who had worked under him. His name came up in conversation, and the news was sad to hear.

Joe and Al taught me the game of baseball. I remember the speech he gave us about being struck by “lightning” and it took me until now to understand. He and Al were the only baseball coaches I admired in my lifetime, I only wish I could have done it all over again making everybody proud. I miss you Joe, take it easy in heaven coach! Love you man, rest up, hope you run into Willie ‘King Of the Pitch’ Mays up there. Rest In Peace my friend.

Joe helped me out my life back together in 2003.
He was one of the finest men I ever met in the Recovery world.
I relapsed in 2016 and I am just getting back to my program. After a year of putting back my life for a second time , I decided to look Joe up to Thank him. The things he taught me will never be forgotten.
I saw this and I must say I regret not being able to reach out at the time of his loss. Please accept my condolences and realize that he touched and saved many lives. His work is still alive and he will never be forgotten.
Thank you Joe!

I was so sorry to hear of Joes passing. I went to high school with Joe at Brandywine in Wilmington, Delaware although our worlds could not have been further apart. Joe was the star athlete and I was in the band. Everyone knew Joe but I don't think he and I ever uttered a word to each other in three years of high school. That all changed five years ago when I received a call from my son. At the time, he was battling addiction and was admitted to Archstone. He said, Dad I think you went to high school with my counselor. His name is Joe Miller. Pause...OMG!To say that Joe was instrumental in my son's recovery would be an understatement. He saved my son's life, it's that simple. Joe and I finally got to meet some years later. I think I shocked him because I showed up with a Brandywine High School alumni sweatshirt for him and regaled him with stories of his football career as told from the sidelines by a member of the marching band. He could not believe that I still remembered his football jersey number. But three years of never missing a football game will do that.I will be eternally grateful to Joe and I will miss him. I have no doubt I will think of him often and marvel at the miracle and mystery that brought him back into my life some 40 years after our paths first crossed. God bless you Joe...
