Bettie Marie Wilhite

Salisbury-Bettie Marie Wilhite, 71, of Salisbury, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at her home. Born in Moberly, MO, she was the daughter of the late Ben B. Bommarito and Bettie Louise Winkler Bommarito.

Marie was born, grew up, went to college and got married in Missouri. She was a graduate of the University of Missouri - Columbia. Graduating with a B.A. In Education and some Graduate work in Botany. She worked for a time at Jefferson College, Hillsboro MO; Brookhaven National Laboratory and the State University of New York at Stonybrook. Marie then started her main career as mother to her three boys. After Matthew was born, Marie began writing Romance Novels for Harlequin and Silhouette - successfully publishing 42 "Sweet Romances" under the pseudonyms Betsy Page, Elizabeth August, and Elizabeth Douglas.

She was quite artistic, doing pen & ink drawings of botanicals, watercolors, needlepoint and crochet. Marie enjoyed playing golf, and made a Hole-In-One on #2 the Glen Cannon Country Club. She really enjoyed playing Poker - Texas Hold'em, and did well at the local VFW and in Atlantic City.

Marie will be remembered as a loving mother, devoted wife, caring and supportive sister and a life-long partner, friend, lover and companion to her husband, Doug.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin Blake Bommarito.

She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years; Dr. Douglas Lee Wilhite, PhD of Salisbury; three sons, Dr. Douglas Benjamin Wilhite, MD and his wife Dr. Sara Maria Haverty, MD of Fruitland, Dr. Benjamin Andrew Wilhite, PhD and his wife Dr. Jodie Lee Lutkenhaus, PhD of College Station, TX and Dr. Matthew Jonathon Wilhite, PhD and his wife Heather Ann Todd of Kernersville, NC. Marie is also survived by a sister, Alice Beth Camponella of St. Charles, MO.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1315 Mt. Hermon Road, Suite D., Salisbury, MD 21804.
