Olin Bounds Obituary

Olin Page Bounds

Olin Page Bounds departed this life on May 8, 2015 at the age of 89 after a long battle with heart disease and diabetes. He was born on November 25, 1925 to Wilmer K. and Grace O. Bounds of Siloam, Maryland.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille M. Abbott Bounds in October of 2006. He is survived by his daughter, Gloria Bounds Shores and husband, Charles; two grandchildren, Jennifer Overholt and husband, Benjamin and Cory Brooks Greenhalgh and companion, Chelsea Freter; and great-grandchildren, Sophia and Matthew. In addition a nephew, Dale Bounds, whose father, William Bounds preceded his brother in death in 2009.

Olin worked on his parent's family farm in Siloam, Maryland until he enlisted in the military at the age of 17. During World War II, he was assigned to the Combat Air Service Unit in the South Pacific where he helped liberate several islands, including the Philippines. He also earned the recognition of the "Golden Dragon" several times after crossing the exact point where the International Date Line and the Equator meet. This was an accomplishment that he would speak of with joy.

When he returned home after being honorably discharged, he was employed as Manager of Excelsior Manufacturing Company. After approximately 20 years in the garment business, he and his wife opened two businesses repairing sewing machines and selling fabrics and merchandise under the name Lucille's Sewing Supplies.

In his later years, Tiffany's of New York chose his velvet jewelry box liners that he designed and produced to accompany products sold at Salisbury Pewter. Hundreds were purchased by Tiffany's for sale to the White House as goodwill gifts under the administrations of President Reagan and Clinton. He took great pride that he played a small part in the gifts that were shared with dignitaries all over the globe.

He loved the beach, playing golf, was an avid sports card and coin collector, and in his later years became an avid race car fan. He was a founding member of the Nassawango Golf and Country Club, as well as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Salisbury.

At the time of his passing he attended the Siloam House of Fellowship. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to this House of Fellowship where he received countless Sundays of comfort.

A celebration of life led by Pastor Danny Travers will be held on Friday May 15, 2015 at 6:00 PM at the Siloam House of Fellowship.

I still think about you every day. Little things come up and it hits me so hard that you and Mom-Mom aren't there anymore. You would love having all the kids around, and they would love you even more. We miss you more than words can say and my heart aches thinking you arent here to share these memories with.
