Patrick Congro Obituary

Patrick G. Congro

Salisbury-Patrick G. Congro, 76, of Salisbury, Maryland, died Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1938, he was the son of the late Basil and Mary Congro.

Pat was a U.S. Marine Corp. Corporal serving during the Viet Nam Conflict in the Helicopter Division. Following his service to his country, Pat joined the Texaco Corp. in the sales division, was marketing vice president for Cray Oil Co. in Walpole, NH, Cato Oil Co. in Salisbury, and Peninsula Oil Co. in Seaford, DE, then owned and operated The Oil Spot in Salisbury and Seaford. In 2003 Pat was named one of the Business Advisory Council's Businessmen of the Year, published in the Wall Street Journal. He was a member of the Lions Club for most of his life, joining in Walpole in 1976, and was awarded the Melvin Harris Award, the highest honor for Lion's Club members. He was an avid golfer, once scoring a hole-in-one, a Corvette enthusiast, and a NASCAR and New York Giants fan. However his greatest joy was his service to his family and community. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, who will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Diane; his children: Patricia (Aquilina) and husband, Louis; Michael and wife, Deborah; David; and Stephen; and grandchildren, Corey Gragg, Caroline Congro, and Patrick Aquilina; brothers Stephen, Vito, Basil, and Louis; sisters, Mary Bligh and Caroline Russo; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 8, 2015 at 1:00 pm at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury. Visitation will be Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Holloway Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Operation First Response, 20037 Dove Hill Rd., Culpepper, VA 22701.

Pat was my good friend.More like an older brother.I loved the time we spent at each others shops talking cars and sports and life.I still cant believe he's gone.Im so sad and I really miss him.We both were from New York so we kinda understood each other really well. When we were at Lions meetings we would crack each other up when the leaders would take themselves a little too seriously. He was one of the funniest guys ive ever met.He could always make me laugh and forget about my problems. He was truly one of a kind. His kind will never be seen again.Bye Patty.

Diane, Patricia, Michael, David and Stephen,
I send you my love, and my deepest condolences on the loss of Patrick, a wonderful man you shared with the rest of us. Pat was held in the highest regard by everyone who knew him. His wit, his generosity, his obvious love and caring for all his friends was always evident. He had a knack for making each of us feel special, and if Pat felt he could help someone he would go out of his way to do so. Thru the years Pat brought sunlight into all our lives, when he walked into a room his personality lit it up. My husband Pete and I loved Pat and his wife Diane and cherished and enjoyed their friendship.
I pray the Peace and Blessings of our Lord bring comfort to Patricks family at this very sad time.
Love, Barbara
