Doris White Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holloway Funeral Home - Salisbury on Mar. 2, 2026.
Doris E. White, 100, passed away Friday, February 27, at the home of her daughter.

Born in Wicomico County on May 13, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Willis H. Bratten and Mattie H. Parker. She was the wife of the late H. Elton White who died in 1988.

She grew up on a large farm in Parsonsburg and was one of seven children, all of whom are now deceased. Her early years were spent working on the family farm, cooking for the large family and attending and graduating from high school.

She was employed for 29 years at the local shirt factory spending most of that time in quality control. After her retirement, she spent 5 years in the summertime working at Handy Seafood in Crisfield. She fell in love with many of the Crisfield residents and they fell in love with her.

She was such an active lady and until age 92, she went to the gym several times a week, enjoyed taking care of her home and yard, attending Happy Timers and making those homemade pies and apple dumplings. She took several national and international trips with her daughter.

She was a very strong active lady who never complained. As she experienced health issues in her later years, her comment was "I could always be worse".

She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Salisbury where she made many friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Haltaman, who was the love of her life, and several nieces and nephews. She is leaving behind many special friends in her daughter's community, all of whom made her life so meaningful in her later years. She spent many hours working her word puzzles and keeping check on the neighbors from her comfortable chair.

The family wants to acknowledge the special care she has received during these last months from family, friends, neighbors, caregivers of Happy Heart Happy Home and Coastal Hospice.

No services will be observed. A family burial will be held at Wicomico Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church, 406 N. Division Street Salisbury, MD 21801 and Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
