I am saddened to hear this. Mr. Lacey was my science teacher and man was he a good one. I looked forward to going to his class each day. He was a man of knowledge and respect. Mr. Lacey wanted nothing less than the best from you and I always gave him my undivided attention. I even remember the classrooms he taught in F312 and F 315. You will be missed but never forgotten and thank you for all that you have taught me and to the Lacey family...my sincere condolences go out to you all.

I am a former student of Mr. Lacey's from Franklin High School who took his Biology class in the 70's. He was a most excellent teacher even in his early teaching days and not only challenged, but encouraged his students to look beyond the obvious. His love of teaching was infectious and he made his students want to learn more. He had a kind spirit and will always be considered to be my favorite teacher, bar none.

Mr. Lacey will always stand out as a favorite teacher (I, too, am of the East High AP Bio crowd). He had this cynical, gruff exterior and would make these seemingly outrageous statements, like since the world got most of its oxygen from the oceans, the concern about rainforest deforestation was actually overblown. It's the interesting tidbits like this that really stick with you and cause you to reconsider what you thought you knew: the mark of a true teacher. Mr. Lacey also inadvertently brought my future husband and me closer together in high school; we shared an award for a research paper competition in his class. I've periodically thought of Mr. Lacey since East and am now very sorry I never checked in to say hello. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones. I hope it is comforting to know that there are many people who think of him and who will miss him.

Allan and I spent many classroom hours and a good deal of our freetime together in Miss Sundell"s art room. Though we did lose contact after high school (when life took over), we did have a nice conversation at our 40th reunion; I remember how proud he was to have found a way to combine teaching and art. My condolences from a fellow refugee from the class of '61.

I'm sorry to hear of Mr. Lacey's passing... I took AP Bio with him at East, and I have many memories of him making us laugh, surprising us with new discoveries in the field of Biology, and caring for us. I now teach Biology, and I can't help but think of him when I pass along the knowledge that he passed on to me.

My thoughts are with your family. I had Mr. Lacey for AP Bio, and I remember him saying once, "no one goes into teaching unless they want to save the world." Here I am 13 years later, teaching.

Dear Jean & Family,

Al and I grew up and attended school together. I lived on Erie Street and Al was on East State. We often walked to school together. We had great fun playing little league and fooling around in general.

I am saddened by his passing. I was hopeful we would get together this summer at our mini Class of 61 Reunion at Lakeside State Park. My prayers are with you. I am grateful that I have wonderful memories from our youth.

I had Mr Lacey as a teacher at East High. He was the best. When I broke my ankle he would often take the elevator with me so I "wouldn't be lonely". My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. Please know his spirit will live on with all his former students.

Dear Jean, Jennie and David,
My prayers are with you at this very sad time. More than anything, I will remember Al's amazing talent as an artist. He did some beautiful signs for the little league field at the park for me and I appreciated that so much.
