Bernice Wright Obituary

Bernice Land Wright

Bernice Land Wright passed into the arms of God on October 13, 2021, peacefully in the hospital, surrounded by love. Reunited with her husband Floyd W. Wright, parents Julian Dillan Land and Ada Belle Bryant Land, children Michael Kennedy and Michelle Kathleen, sister Juanita Krantz, and dear friend Ruth Phillips.

A deeply cherished and beloved mother, she is survived by daughter Julie Ann and son Clayton Floyd Wright, as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Bernice Wright lived her life characterized by unconditional love, unwavering faith, and acts of service. Her smile and eyes radiated love and light, with such beauty of soul and spirit.

The Senate of the State of Texas recognized her in 2005 for her service, and in 2010 she was honored with a Certificate of Commendation from the Texas House of Representatives. She served as Election Judge in her precinct and gave of herself throughout her life with grace and dignity.

As a musician, she played piano and organ for over 60 years in the Lake Cities United Methodist Church. She served as President of the United Methodist Women, assisted in forming homebound meals in the Lake Cities area, and volunteered with the Spirit of Christmas. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Bernice Wright loved children and was a foster parent for 15 years with Denton County, specializing in rehabilitation of infants with failure to thrive syndrome. She and her husband led a Sunday school program at the Denton State School.

Bernice Wright radiated light and love to all who encountered her. The beauty of her soul, love of her heart, and graciousness of spirit still touch our hearts.

She is deeply missed.

Her legacy is a legacy of love, and her wish for all would be that we love one another.

Donations may be made to the Floyd and Bernice Wright Scholarship Fund, Lake Cities United Methodist Church.

Ever since I moved away from the Lake Cities area, I think about Miss Bernice whenever I drive through Lake Dallas. She loved people unconditionally, and I am especially grateful for the love and support she gave my family during my son's short life. She loved John-John as her own, and she always lifted him up in spirit to our Lord. I loved playing flute while she played the organ. She was one of the best, most loving and selfless people I have ever known.

Bernice was a much loved friend and mentor, not only to me, but also to countless others, who were touched by her music, her sweet spirit, her teaching, her unwavering faith in Jesus, and her service. Not mentioned in the obituary, she was also awarded a lifetime service award by the Lake Cities Chamber of Commerce. Bernice continues to be a light shining in the darkness leading the way to Christ. I know I am a better person for being loved and mentored by Bernice. My condolences to Bernice's family.
