Bill Trantham Obituary

William Edward "Wild Bill" Trantham, Esq., 80, of Denton County, Texas passed away on November 2, 2023. He was born September 16, 1943 to William Ira Trantham, Jr. and Kathryn Wallace Trantham.

Bill would graduate from North Texas State University in 1966 and after a stint with the United States Marine Corps, upon receiving his honorable discharge, he would graduate from SMU Law School in 1970. A lawyer with a personality as big as Texas, Bill was never afraid to take on the biggest of challenges and help the smallest of people. Always one to be a mentor to a new attorney and long-time friend to many others. In his 53 years of practicing law, Bill experienced and saw it all. His most favorite of legal tales was that of being Rex Cauble's attorney and the lore of what would popularly become known as the "Cowboy Mafia." In 1984, Bill would lose his first son at 14 years old and one week later welcome the birth of a new son, William David. Bill would provide the world to his son and give him the greatest experiences and tales of life. Family trips would explore the offerings and great history of the United States with numerous visits to national battlefield parks, many trips to Canada to visit relatives, camping trips, hockey camps and introduction to numerous people of different trades and backgrounds. Bill would welcome Emmaline, his only granddaughter in 2018. A new life of a new family member brought many new joys to a man who had seemingly seen it all.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, wife Jill Trantham, and son William Barclay Trantham. He is survived by his son William David Trantham, daughter in law Stacy Trantham, granddaughter Emmaline Trantham, sister Nancy McCullough and many nieces and nephews covering two countries.

In keeping with Bill's preference, no services will be held and desires that his memory be remembered through the halls and spirit of the courthouses across Texas.

I have known Bill for many years even being on the legal end of him. I would have never wanted it any other way. Because I knew if I survived his legal encounter I knew I faced the best. I had the most respect for him. RIP Bill!
