Charles Hoyt Obituary

HOYT, CHARLES RICHARD Charles Richard "Dick" Hoyt, a native Portlander, died October 10, 2003, in Portland, OR, at age 75. He was the son of the late Cecile DeVore Hoyt and the late Edwin Palmer "E.P." Hoyt, publisher of the Portland Oregonian from 1939-1946, and editor and publisher of the Denver Post from 1946-1970. Dick was a descendent of Oregon pioneers and a fiercely independent entrepreneur. He was proud to have developed the first condominiums in Colorado at Breckenridge, as well as inventing the original "Roll-Up" eggroller. A man of diverse interests, from the writings of Melville and Service, to the music of Goodman and Dorsey, Dick Hoyt was most passionate about the art of fly-fishing. Dick is survived by wife Janet Hart Hoyt; children Cynthia Hoyt Kinney, James Rice Hoyt, Richard Palmer Hoyt, former wife Suzanne Rice Hoyt; brother Edwin Palmer Hoyt Jr., and three wonderful grandchildren. Arrangements by Funley-Sunset Hills Mortuary. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
